TVEITT: Piano Concerto No. 4 / Variations on a Folk Song
One of the most individual and wide-ranging of twentieth century Norwegian composers, Geirr Tveitt suffered a terrible blow a decade before his death when his Hardanger home and most of his music were destroyed by fire. Through the efforts of his family and fellow musicians, many pieces have risen all too literally from the ashes, and his vivid sound world being rediscovered. These two concerto works for his own instrument integrate cosmopolitan influences into a brilliantly imaginative, multi-coloured and profoundly Norwegian idiom.
