TURINA: Piano Trios (Complete)
The Spanish composer, Joaquín Turina’s music is largely nationalist in style. Though his most successful works employed local Spanish colours, he also adopted conventional European forms more consistently than his contemporaries, such as Albéniz, Granados and de Falla. His four piano trios are here presented complete for the first time on a single disc. The first two reflect familiarity with the central European tradition of chamber music, while Círculo, dating from 1936 contains additional elements of the Spanish character expressed in music. This disc also contains the first recording of the fine early trio from 1904, a work of substance whose addition to the catalogue will be welcomed.
