MOZART: Wind Serenades
Mozart’s Serenades and Divertimenti were occasional pieces often played outdoors before large, popular audiences. The four works on this recording include two of his Salzburg wind Divertimenti, though neither of these prepares the listener for the intensity, power and grave beauty of the magnificent C minor Serenade composed in Vienna in 1782. Mozart himself thought so highly of this work that he later arranged it for string quintet.
