SATIE (THE BEST OF)
Erik Satie came to public attention at the end of the nineteenth century when Debussy orchestrated two of his piano Gymnopédies. He later earned himself a reputation as an eccentric, when the media named him as the inspiration for a group of six provocative composers they dubbed Les Six. Although he later made an effort to become a more ‘respectable’ composer, his music will be remembered for its wit, charm and, above all, for the sheer joy that it imparts. This disc opens and concludes with the two versions of the ravishing Gymnopédies, for which Satie is most famous.
