BARTOK (THE BEST OF)
One of the major composers of the first half of the twentieth century and one of the greatest that Hungary has produced, Béla Bartók combined a deep knowledge of the folk-music of his own and adjacent countries with a keen interest in contemporary music. His own compositions, at times intensely emotional and beautiful, at others percussive and dissonant, at first met with indifference but are today widely performed and recorded.
