NORDIC PIANO FAVOURITES
During one single decade, 1803–1813, many of the foremost composers of the Romantic era were born: Berlioz, Wagner, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Chopin and Liszt. The last four were all excellent pianists and cultivated with much success a sort of short character piece, which would have its counterpart in the Nordic countries during the era of Nationalism in music, i.e. during the latter part of the 19th century and onwards. Folk music, myth and saga were to become the main features in the creation of this national style. The present CD contains a fine collection of music by some of its best-known proponents in Norway, Finland, Sweden and Denmark and is filled to the brim with beautiful piano pieces.
