Franz Bartolomey has been principal cellist with the Vienna Philharmonic since 1973 and has appeared as a soloist with famous conductors such as Leonard Bernstein, James Levine, Daniel Barenboim, Simon Rattle, André Previn and Roger Norrington. He also enjoys a successful career in chamber music. In the booklet he writes about the history, function, character and legends of his instrument.
