Art and Music: Goya - Music of His Time
The artistic genius of Francisco Goya (1746–1828) was multifaceted and complex. Chief painter at the Spanish court, a master of the official portrait, he also gave expression to a dark vision of the world, in which phantoms leer and threaten, witches eat babies and the horrors of war are rampant. On this CD, the world of Goya is given a musical perspective with a carefully chosen selection of pieces by the finest composers of his time. Inside, Hugh Griffith provides explanatory notes on his life and musical environment.
