WILLSON, M.: Symphonies Nos. 1 and 2
Meredith Willson achieved international fame as the composer of two of Broadway’s best-known musicals, The Music Man and The Unsinkable Molly Brown. But he was much more than that – Willson was a virtuoso flautist who played in Sousa’s Band and the New York Philharmonic; a brilliant orchestrator who worked with Charlie Chaplin on the score of The Great Dictator; a gifted conductor; and in his spare time an author, librettist and humourist. This world première recording of his two symphonies shows Willson creating tone poems about two of his most beloved places in California.
