SOUSA: At the Symphony

There is no disputing John Philip Sousa as the premier composer of music for military band. His many marches are known the world over and played to this day but it was Sousa’s efforts as America’s musical ambassador to the world that was to influence such composers as Debussy, Ravel, Stravinsky and Grainger.

A concert by Sousa was always an “event” to be savoured with its selection of Overtures, Marches, light classics and novelty numbers. Conductor and Sousa expert Keith Brion recreates just such a concert in “At the Symphony”.
