MORAVEC: Time Gallery (The) / Protean Fantasy / Ariel Fantasy
Paul Moravec, winner of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize in Music, has composed over eighty orchestral, chamber, choral and lyric works. The Time Gallery, composed for eighth blackbird (violin, cello, piano, percussion, flute & clarinet), is a musical meditation on the nature of time and the experience of temporal duration. Variously contemplative, celebratory and energetically propulsive, the work approaches time also in the historical sense, from the bells of the Middle Ages to the radioactive clocks of today. Protean Fantasy and Ariel Fantasy (the opening movement of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Tempest Fantasy) are dazzling displays of virtuosity for violin and piano duo.
