BERLINSKI: From the World of My Father / Shofar Service / Symphonic Visions for Orchestra
Herman Berlinski-whose colourful life included musical development in Leipzig and Paris, a stint in the French Foreign Legion, and a distinguished career as a composer, conductor, and organist in the United States-composed Judaically inspired music using a palette of rich, late-romantic harmonies. Included on this CD are some of Berlinski’s best-known works for the synagogue and the concert hall.
“There are passages in Berlinski’s work of such aching beauty that if you are not moved to tears you are made of sterner stuff than I am.” – Jerry Dubins, reviewing Berlinski’s Avodat Shabbat (Naxos 8.559430) in Fanfare, 2003.
