ELGAR: Piano Music
Elgar’s piano works have been overshadowed by the large-scale works for which he is best known today. This recording combines the ever-popular Engima Variations, heard in the composer’s own transcription, with several occasional pieces of a romantic or nostalgic hue. These include the charming Sonatina written for Elgar’s niece, two movements from the wistful Dream Children (the orchestral version can be heard on Naxos 8.557166) and Une Idylle, which recalls a holiday in Scotland.
