A member of the Chicago Opera since 1916, Galli-Curci joined the Metropolitan Opera in 1921 establishing herself in the unique position of being the star attraction at America’s two leading opera houses. She was the highest paid singer at the Met, and the ‘Galli-Curci craze’ which swept through the country made her name a household word. Volume 2 of Galli-Curci’s complete acoustic recordings spans the years 1920–24, and includes arias from Verdi’s Rigoletto and Il Trovatore, Meyerbeer’s Dinorah, RimskyKorsakov’s Sadko and Le Coq d’Or, and Puccini’s Madama Butterfly (the soprano’s only issued recording of a Puccini aria). Also included are popular songs by Bishop, Herbert and Ponce (as well as several previously unpublished titles), and the duets with Tito Schipa from Donizetti’s Don Pasquale and Lucia di Lammermoor, Bellini’s La Sonnambula, and Verdi’s Rigoletto and La Traviata.
