KORNGOLD, E.W.: Much Ado about Nothing (complete version, narrated and sung in German) (Peinen, Mammel, Holst Sinfonietta, K. Simon)
Korngold’s greatest critical successes lay in the field of opera and in his film scores. The early sets of incidental music reflect these two elements, sharing the theatrical bravura of opera and anticipating his own later filmic techniques. The music for the Viennese production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing in 1920 is heard here in full and with a new narrated text in German written by Cornelius Bauer and Klaus Simon. The version without German narration is available on 8.573355, coupled with Der Vampir.
