CROSSMAN, F.: Comics Code (The): Go There (Alexander, Victors)

Go There is the second single from the musical, The Comics Code, and is the main love song between the show’s two leads. Based on actual events from the early days of Marvel Comics, The Comics Code tells the story of Stan Lee and his relationship with Joan, his future wife, while he was in the middle of a dust-up with The Comics Code Authority. The legal battle left Stan facing financial ruin, and in the song Go There Stan declares that having 'nothing' has shown him what is important in his life: his love for Joan.

“From the first time we sang it, there was something magical in the air,” says Ethan Williams. “The harmonies just seemed to arrive effortlessly, and when I heard Julia’s voice soaring up to those high notes I knew we were doing something special.”

“Since the first public reading of The Comics Code here in Hollywood, there has been a lot of excitement about getting this music out there,” says Julia Masterson who shares singing credits on the duet. “But Go There was always the one everyone wanted to do. Whenever we perform it live, the audience is just mesmerized. I think it’s going to become a standard, and it’s wonderful to finally get it out there.”

Moving effortlessly from intimate ballad to soaring showstopper, the production of Go There recalls the sound of early Seventies studio productions – the era in which the musical is based. An era that was to give us so much classic music, and also gave us company that would change comic books forever. The producers of The Comics Code are currently in discussions with companies on both coasts relating to upcoming productions.
