MAHLER, G.: Symphony No. 2, "Resurrection": IV. Urlicht (B. Taylor, Bavarian Radio Symphony, Rattle)
“Urlicht” is a song from Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2. It is based on a poem from *Des Knaben Wunderhorn*. The symphony deals with the soul’s struggle for redemption and eternal life. Mahler himself described the piece as the “questioning and striving of the soul for God and for its own divine existence beyond this life.”
