After a prolonged period of neglect, the music of brothers Philipp and Xaver Scharwenka is experiencing the seeds of a revival. Although some recordings have been made of their works, none of the programmes facilitate an exploration of the brothers’ close connections and similar artistic influences. This album from Yoerae Kim and Matteo Weber, however, presents a cohesive programme that highlights those intriguing biographical connections. They pair a violin sonata by each brother with a serenade and a suite, spanning a creative period of some 35 years.
