GOLINELLI, S.: Piano Sonatas Nos. 1 and 2 (Brigandì)
Stefano Golinelli was an acclaimed virtuoso pianist who was also appreciated as a composer in his day. He played an important role in the 19th-century Italian musical renaissance, but his name has faded from view over time. The emotional power of Golinelli’s music is well represented in his first two piano sonatas, the earliest of which, Op. 30, shows the influence of Schumann and Mendelssohn. The Op. 53 sonata features a wealth of melodic ideas and musical surprises – its opening is an Italian homage to Chopin, and the work also contains a beautiful Andantino movement.
Loredana Brigandì, an accomplished pianist, is known for her temperament and musicality. She began studying the piano at the age of six and went on to graduate with top marks from Rome’s Santa Cecilia Conservatory. She furthered her studies in Rome, Salzburg, and London with renowned teachers. Loredana has performed as a concert pianist and held teaching positions at a young age. She founded the Accademia Filarmonica Reggina and organised the “Serate Musicali” chamber music festival. Her discography includes world premieres and her recordings are broadcast worldwide. Loredana continues to perform and teach, currently at Rome’s AIMART.
