In 1918, Nancy Dalberg became the first woman in Denmark to have a symphony performed – a milestone that drew as much doubt about her abilities as admiration for the achievement. Reviewers questioned whether its three movements, which share no musical material, truly added up to a symphony at all. More than a hundred years later, this recording finally presents Dalberg’s Symphony in C sharp minor as she intended it: three movements, one whole.
