Naseer-ud-Din Saami is from the Qawal Bacha Gharana tradition, also known as Taan Ras Khan’s Delhi Gharana. His predecessors’ were students of the legendary Taan Sain. He received his musical education from his uncles Munshi Razi ud Din Ahmed and Iftikhar Ahmed Khan, and his grandfather Sardar Khan.

He was awarded the 3rd All Pakistan Music Conference’s ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ in 2008. In 2013, he was awarded Pakistan’s ‘Pride of Performance Award’ – Pakistan’s highest civilian honour – for his contributions to Pakistan’s music. In 2009, he was awarded the ‘Tamgha e Imtiaz’. He regularly performs internationally as well as at the annual Pakistan Music Conferences.

Naseer-ud-Din’s singing is characterized by the purity of sur (the note), his effortless movement between notes and effective use of micronotes. His performance of Raag Bihaag appeals to both the intellectual and the emotional listener. He captivates and mesmerizes, transporting the listener to a world of wonder and beauty. Abu Nasr Saami, Naseer-ud-Din’s son, joins him on vocals.
