Altaf Hussain Tafu Khan is a leading figure in the Punjab Gharana tradition. He is also the son of Khadim Hussain Khan. His music education came from his father and his paternal uncle Haji Fida Hussain. He also learnt from Ustad Mian Qadir Baksh of the Punjab Gharana. His music has featured in more than 700 films. He has explored new musical aveneues while playing tabla and has improved the ‘Baaj’ of the tabla. His use of 10-finger playing creates a unique and fast style. He can also play the kaangu, naal, dholak and phakawaj.
