Watched by eight million viewers worldwide, it is generally regarded as the world's leading vocal competition, having launched a host of stars onto the operatic stage.

Witness the now legendary "Battle of the Baritones" �V 1989. It was this year that the 'Song Prize' was introduced. Bryn Terfel was victorious in the Song Prize with Dmitri Hvorostovsky taking the overall Cardiff Singer of the World title.
