Piano Recital: Paolo, Laura di - GRESTI, E. de / BALLARINI, A. / BARONI-CAVALCABO, J. / WEBENAU, V. von
The publication of this cd is part of a research project carried out by a group of musician-teachers from the F.A. Bonporti Conservatory of Trento and Riva del Garda. Launched in 2021 with the aim of investigating and promoting the musical activities of women in composition and performance, as well as in the fields of musicological analysis and archival work, both historically and in present-day Trentino, the initiative now aims to expand through collaborations and broader perspectives, intending to better understand the gender differences that have developed in society over the centuries.
The unifying element of the four featured musicians, in line with the prevailing spirit of the research project, is the Trentino region: it is the native land of Elvira de Gresti and Anna Ballarini, and simultaneously the ancestral land of Julie Baroni Cavalcabò and her descendant Vilma von Webenau, whose paternal grandmother was Julie. There is also a historical aspect that makes the repertoire selection cohesive, considering that all the composers were born in the 19th century, albeit in different generations and from different social backgrounds. Thus, these are the different lives of women moving within a temporal and territorial space that is in some ways shared, yet presents very diverse internal articulations, as evidenced by their musical creations.
