Organ Recital: Lavena, Domenico - ATZORI, M. / LORENZATTI, A. / PERINU, E. / OPPES, V. / LAVENA, D. (Opere per organo)
The restoration of the magnificent historic organ in the church of Orani (Nuoro, Sardinia) led to a series of events and initiatives aimed at enhancing the rediscovery of this precious instrument. Among these is the present recording production, resulting from the collaboration between the municipality of Orani and the “Palestrina” Conservatory of Cagliari.
The project – coordinated by professor Angelo Castaldo – involves a group of young graduate composition students (Matteo Atzori, Andrè Lorenzatti, Elia Pirinu, and Veronica Oppes), who have written original pieces specifically for the Orani organ, taking into account its unique characteristics.
From the intriguing challenge of making an organ from 1732 'contemporary', 'musical cameos' with a variety of stylistic features were thus born, bearing witness to the fact that even historical instruments can contribute – with their precious peculiarities – to the growth of today’s and tomorrow’s music.
The compositions are performed by organist Domenico Lavena, who enriches the CD with an improvisation on the famous Christmas theme “Adeste fideles”.
