The Music of Brazil

ABOUT

The Music of Brazil
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Brazil

Developed in collaboration with the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Naxos’ ‘The Music of Brazil’ series presents around 100 orchestral, chamber, choral and vocal works from the 19th and 20th centuries which will be recorded by the country’s top orchestras, ensemble and artists.

The works have been selected for their historical importance for Brazilian music and their presence on disc. Most of the works to be recorded have never been made available outside Brazil; many others will have their world premiere recording in this series. An important part of the project is the preparation of new or even first published editions of the works to be recorded, many of which have to date only been available in the original composers’ manuscripts, despite their cultural relevance. This work will be carried out by the Brazilian Academy of Music and by musicologists working together with the artists.
