Selina Ott

As the very first woman in the 70-year history of the ARD International Music Competition, in 2018 Selina Ott won the First Prize in the category of trumpet at the age of only 20.

She was promptly invited by top orchestras like the WDR Symphony Orchestra, the German Symphony Orchestra in Berlin, the Tonkunstler Orchestra in Lower Austria and the Czech Philharmonc, to international festivals like the Bach Festival in Leipzig, Grafenegg, the Rheingau Music Festival, the Sauerland Autumn, the Emergents Festival in Barcelona, the Herbstgold Festival in Eisenstadt, the Music Festival in Bremen and the SWR Schwetzing Festival as well as to concert halls such as the Vienna Konzerthaus and Musikverein, the Philharmonic Hall in Berlin and the Rudolfinum in Prague.

As a soloist, she has already performed with the WDR Symphony Orchestra, the Hamburg Symphony, the Haydn Philharmonic, the North-West German Philharmonic, the Collegium Musicum in Basel, the Philharmonic Orchestra in Hagen and at the Cologne Philharmonic Hall, the Essen Philharmonic Hall, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Salzburg Mozarteum, the Vienna Musikverein and the Musical Theatre in Basel.

Selina Ott commenced her musical training on the piano at the age of five. A year later, she began learning the trumpet from her father, Erich Ott. From 2011 to 2016, she completed the highly gifted and preparatory courses with Martin Mühlfellner at the University of Music and the Performing Arts in Vienna, in 2015 and 2016 she was additionally a young student with Reinhold Friedrich at Karlsruhe Music Academy and in 2016 she began her bachelor’ studies with Roman Rindberger at the Music and Art Private University of the City of Vienna (MUK).

Moreover, she has attended master classes held by Gabor Tarkövi, Jens Lindemann, Kristian Steenstrup, Allen Vizzutti, Bo Nilsson, Hans Gansch, Guillaume Couloumy and Klaus Schuhwerk.

In her young career, Selina Ott has eight times been awarded the First Prize of the Austrian prima la musica Competition in the category of trumpet solo on regional and national levels. In 2017, she was awarded the First Prize of the Lions Music Award.

Roberto Paternostro

The Vienna-born Roberto Paternostro was an assistant to Herbert von Karajan, before appearing at the opera houses in Munich, Berlin, Dresden, Venice, Genoa, Naples, Barcelona, Madrid, Seville and at the Vienna Volksoper. From 1997 to 2007, he was Director General of Music of the State Theatre in Kassel, from 1991 to 2000 Director General of Music of the Wurttemberg Philharmonic and from 2009 to 2013 Artistic Director of the Israel Chamber Orchestra, but is also a welcome guest at many other orchestras such as the DSO in Berlin, the WDR Symphony Orchestra in Cologne, the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo or the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. Highlights in recent years have been the season opening of the State Opera in Prague with Verdi’s Aida, Mozart’s Die Zauberflote at the New National Theatre in Tokyo and his debut at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires with Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen, which was also released on DVD. Future conducting assignments will include a guest appearance of the Bayreuth Festival with Wagner’s Walkure in Abu Dhabi, Lohengrin in Stuttgart, R. Strauss’ Elektra at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Daphne in Strasbourg, Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra in Hamburg, Puccini’s Turandot and Wagner’s Parsifal at the Liceu in Barcelona, the latter also in Lisbon as well as concerts with the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, the hr Symphony Orchestra in Frankfurt, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Halle Orchestra in Manchester and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. In addition, CD recordings are planned with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Amongst his CD recordings, the recording of the complete symphonies by Bruckner must be stressed. Roberto Paternostro was awarded the ECHO Klassik in 2012 and recently also the Gold Order of Merit of the City of Vienna. Most recently, he held a guest appearance at the Theater an der Wien with Ullmann’s Der Kaiser von Atlantis.

ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra

The ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra is a top orchestra recognized throughout the world that feels obliged to the Viennese tradition of orchestral performance. Since September 2019, Marin Alsop assumes the position of principal conductor. The Vienna RSO is well-known for its unusual and courageous programming. Frequently, the Classical and Romantic repertoire and works of classical Modernism are placed in an unexpected context by combining them with contemporary pieces and rarely performed works from different periods.

All the performances are broadcast on radio, especially on the station O1, but also abroad. Afterwards, the concerts by the Vienna RSO can be heard for a week on the media player of O1. With its growing presence on European television and its co-operation with the youth station FM4, the Vienna RSO continuously reaches new music lovers. Many fans support the club ‘Freundin des RSO‘.

The Vienna RSO is also at home in the genre of film music. Every year, the orchestra is conducted by composers who have been awarded an Oscar for the best soundtrack. In 2012, the Vienna RSO recorded the soundtrack to the film Measuring the World, and in 2016 there followed the films Kater and Die Getraumten. Of the many CD releases, may the three-part CD box entitled Martinu: The Symphonies be mentioned, which was awarded the prestigious ICMA in the category ‘Symphonic Music’ in 2018. In addition, the principal conductor at the time, Cornelius Meister, was awarded the ‘Opus Klassik’ as Conductor of the Year. In Vienna, the RSO regularly performs two subscribers’ cycles in the Musikverein and the Konzerthaus. Beyond that, the orchestra annually appears at major festivals in Austria and abroad. There are close links to the Salzburg Festival, to the musikprotokoll at the Styrian Autumn and to Wien Modern. Tours regularly take the RSO to Japan and China as well as to the USA, South America, Spain, Italy and Germany. Since 2007, the Vienna RSO has established itself as an opera orchestra with its continuously successful co-operation with the Theater an der Wien. Most recently, the Vienna RSO performed Weber’s Euryanthe at the Theater an der Wien.
