Another Volume Complete in the Naxos Deutsche-Lied Edition

January 01, 2008

Recording sessions were completed for eventual CD release as part of the continuing Naxos Deutsche-Lied Edition. This important project has been overseen by pianist and Lied-scholar Ulrich Eisenlohr, working in artistic conjunction with many of today’s finest singers and Lied interpreters.

The program for this recording was sung by Munich-born tenor Ferdinand von Bothmer, a busy member of the Vienna Volksoper since 1999 who, in addition to his operatic roles, also has been heard in concert repertoire and often in Lieder recitals.

The nine songs, set to the words of various poets, range wide in scope, from the fleet and charming Als ich sie erröten sah, D153, by Bernhard Ambros Ehrlich, to the dark and disquieting Der Vatermörder, D 10, by Gottlieb Conrad Pfeffel. Other songs recorded included Morganlied, D381, Abendlied, D382, both set to texts by unknown authors, and the later Der Wachtelschlag, D742, by Samuel Friedrich Sauter.

The recording sessions took place from 30 November to 3 December at the DRS in Zürich, Switzerland, and were produced by both Christoph Keller and Andreas Werner.
