SAUGUET: Symphony No. 1

Helped by Satie and Milhaud, the French composer Henri Sauguet established himself in Paris in the 1920s. The first of his four symphonies, a lament for the sufferings of the innocent in the war, written in 1944, evokes elements in the struggle, tempered by his own memories of the war of 1914–18.
