The prolific Belgian composer Arthur Meulemans is represented by May Night, an intermezzo from his re-telling of the legend of the nun Sister Beatrijs, her absence from the convent covered by the Blessed Virgin herself. Pliny’s Fountain depicts in romantic terms a beauty spot in Limburg, while Symphonies Nos. 2 and 3 are similarly romantic and evocative, the latter a depiction of the magic events of a summer night in the woods.
