John Buckley studied composition with James Wilson at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin and subsequently with the Welsh composer Alun Hoddinott in Cardiff. His piano music is inspired by poets such as Yeats and Shelley, together with the countryside and legends of his native Ireland.
