KLEBE: Violin Sonatas / Capriccio for Solo Violin, Op. 128 / Fantasia Incisiana, Op. 137
Although best known as one of the most important contemporary German composers of opera, Giselher Klebe, a pupil of Boris Blacher, has also made a significant contribution to orchestral, vocal, choral, chamber music and instrumental repertoires. This third Marco Polo disc of his music (Volumes One and Two of his piano music are available on 8.223712 and 8.225290), released in celebration of the composer’s 80th birthday, features works for solo violin and for violin and piano, written over a period of forty years. Based on serial techniques, Klebe’s style is nevertheless approachable and expressive, with a very individual use of melody.
