Antoine Forqueray was one of France’s foremost viola da gamba players, performing for both Louis XIV and Louis XV. His son, Jean-Baptiste-Antoine, himself an accomplished performer, published five suites arranged from his father’s work, all in two versions: one for two viols, and the other for harpsichord. These were published two years after Antoine’s death. They preserve the original range of the viols, but add embellishments and expand harmonies. With this second disc, the renowned harpsichordist Luc Beauséjour concludes his recording of the complete Suites. Volume 1 is available on 8.553407.
