GABRIELI: Music for Brass, Vol. 3
The nephew of the great Andrea Gabrieli, Giovanni Gabrieli served at the court of Duke Albrecht V in Munich before returning to his native Venice. There he followed his uncle in employment at St. Mark’s, where he established himself as one of the leading composers in Italy. His music for brass made full use of the spatial possibilities of the Basilica and the need for impressive ceremony. This is the third and final volume of the world première recording of Gabrieli’s complete instrumental ensemble canzonas and sonatas.
