GRANADOS, E.: Piano Music, Vol. 2 (Riva) - Goyescas
Enrique Granados was one of Spain’s most important composers. A virtuoso pianist, he composed prolifically for the instrument and was frequently called the ‘Spanish Chopin’. Goyescas is a work full of colour, inspired by the work of the Spanish artist, Francisco Goya. This disc includes the first recording of Serenata goyesca, a separate piece which is thought to have formed part of the first draft of Goyescas. The work was eventually turned into an opera and first performed at the Metropolitan Opera, New York. Sadly, the composer’s journey home from New York ended in tragedy when his ship sank in the Atlantic during the First World War.
