WEISS, S.L.: Lute Sonatas, Vol. 4 (Barto) - Nos. 21, 37, 46
Sylvius Leopold Weiss was by far the most outstanding lutenist of the Baroque era. Contemporary accounts mention him together with Bach, Handel and Telemann as one of Germany’s most accomplished musicians. The Sonatas form part of a prodigious output. The three recorded here represent the once near-legendary Weiss and his mature style, and reflect both his unrivalled virtuosity and his exceptional craftsmanship.
