VILLA-LOBOS, H.: Piano Music, Vol. 2 (Rubinsky) - A Prole do Bebe, No. 2 / Cirandinhas
The scope and diversity of Villa-Lobos’s musical output are remarkable. This stylistic variety is well represented in his works for the piano, an instrument for which he wrote with great confidence and an understanding of its distinctive resources. It was also through his piano compositions that he first caught the attention of the international music scene, particularly those works inspired by the imaginary world of childhood. The largest work in this second volume of the complete piano music is the second suite, A Prole do Bebê No. 2 (‘The Baby’s Family’), which evokes a menagerie of toy animals. Cirandinhas (‘Little Round Songs’) is also related to the world of children, but at times possesses a slightly darker tone.
