FINZI: Lo, the Full, Final Sacrifice / Magnificat / Unaccompanied Partsongs, Op. 17
Gerald Finzi has perhaps more than any other composer come to embody the notion of a lyrical, impassioned pastoralism in the English 20th century musical renaissance. Lo, the Full, Final Sacrifice is an enormously restrained yet powerful work that takes the listener through a feast of moods and beautiful textures and ends with possibly the most sublime Amen in all choral music. Also included are the finely crafted Seven Unaccompanied partsongs and the Magnificat, both demonstrating Finzi’s indefatigable ability to word paint to great effect.
