BRAHMS, J.: Four-Hand Piano Music, Vol. 17 (Matthies, Köhn)
Brahms was an accomplished pianist, whose output for the piano spanned his entire life. In addition to his solo works he made four-hand piano arrangements of many of his orchestral, chamber and vocal scores, to give them greater accessibility. The great, monumental First Piano Concerto, which made no concessions to contemporary taste, was conceived originally as a sonata for two pianos. In this recording we hear the version of the Concerto for piano duo two pianos. The version for piano duet (one piano, four hands) can be heard on Naxos 8.554116.
