Recognised today as one of Spain’s most important composers, Granados wrote operas, symphonic poems, numerous chamber music pieces, many songs and a large number of pieces for the piano. The present release contains one of the composer’s most intimate piano works, Cartas de amor (‘Love Letters’), several evocative studies and L’himne dels morts (‘Hymn for the Dead’), a piece which seems to hint at the composer’s own premature demise. The disc is further distinguished by five world première recordings.
