SAINT-SAENS: Organ Music
|
|
From childhood until the last year of his life, Camille Saint-Saëns enjoyed international renown as a piano and organ virtuoso. Although he composed prolifically, “as an apple tree produces apples”, much of his output remains relatively unknown. His published organ works consist of pieces for solo organ, organ and orchestra, chamber works and transcriptions. Highlights of this disc include the Fantaisie in E flat, Saint-Saëns’ most popular work for the instrument, and the conductor Émile Bernard’s colourful transcription of the Adagio from Saint-Saëns’ most popular orchestral work, the Organ Symphony.
