GUARNIERI, C.: Piano Concertos Nos. 1-3 (Barros, Warsaw Philharmonic, Conlin)
Mozart Camargo Guarnieri is universally recognised as the most important Brazilian composer after Villa-Lobos. The Six Piano Concertos, composed over a period of forty years, are vibrant, exciting works notable for their dazzling sonorities and, at times, astonishingly beautiful lyrical themes. The Piano Concerto No. 1 is the most distinctively Brazilian of the set. The Piano Concerto No. 2 is propelled by a relentless dynamism while the Piano Concerto No. 3 evokes the rhythms and melodies of rural and urban dance genres through completely invented material.
