PAVLOVA, A.: Monolog / The Old New York Nostalgia / Sulamith Suite
|
|
Born and trained in Russia, the composer Alla Pavlova later settled in America and composed music for a variety of media ranging from film and dance, to theatre. Her Sulamith Suite is a collection of excerpts from her ballet of the same name based on Alexandre Kuprin’s dramatic and touching love story of King Solomon and the servant girl Sulamith. The Old New York Nostalgia is a telling look at metropolitan life made all the more poignant by the inclusion of the movement Lullaby for the Twins, composed after and dedicated to the victims of 9/11. Pavlova’s Symphonies Nos. 1–4 can be heard on Naxos 8.557157 and 8.557566.
