CAVALLI: Arias and Duets from Didone, Egisto, Ormindo, Giasone and Calisto
This overview of Cavalli’s operatic music paints a picture of both the nature of opera as it was developing in Venice at the time, and the composer’s own artistic and compositional talent. Although influenced by Monteverdi, Cavalli imbued his music with his own individual style, in particular the quality of cantabilità (singability), which is especially evident in this selection of arias and duets from five early operas.
