LAZAROF: Tableaux / Violin Concerto / Symphony No. 2
Born in Bulgaria but a resident of California since 1959, Henri Lazarof has made his reputation as a teacher, broadcaster and composer. His often eclectic music is notable for its precision and intricacy of detail set within a framework of unusual groupings of orchestral instruments. This disc of world première recordings features two works commissioned by the Seattle Symphony, the Tableaux for Piano and Orchestra, written in response to the paintings of Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1994) and the Symphony No. 2, both scored for an enormous orchestra including a wide variety of percussion instruments, and the texturally rich and often lyrical Violin Concerto, Lazarof’s tenth concerto.
