Carl Maria von Weber. Komische Oper in three acts. 1821.
Completed by Gustav Mahler in 1888.
Libretto by Theodor Hell (Carl Gottfried Theodor Winkler), after Der Brautkampf (The Bridal Contest) by Carl Seidel.
First performance at the Leipzig Neues Stadttheater on 20th January 1888.
The intrigue centres on Clarissa and the real Don Pinto, who is to marry her. He is made drunk
and replaced by Don Gaston, who is then replaced by Clarissa's lover Don Gomez. All ends well in
the betrothal of Clarissa and Don Gomez.
Weber only wrote a small part of the projected opera, which was largely the work of Mahler,
using other works of Weber and his own work.
