After leaving his position as assistant leader with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Andrew Long is now the associate leader of Opera North and the leader of the New World String Quartet and New World Ensemble. As a soloist he has given concerto and recital performances throughout Britain and Europe including a televised performance of Elgar’s Violin Sonata in Poland. He is a keen exponent of contemporary music and with his quartet and ensemble has recorded for the ASC and Campion labels. On a lighter and more unusual note, he conducts, arranges for and presents the Andy Long Orchestra, where he indulges his passion for light music. His arrangements of popular classics have made him a regular feature at corporate events and at the Bridlington Spa Grand Ballroom. Andrew Long plays a Guarneri del Gesù violin of 1735, on loan to him by very kind permission of Ealing Strings of London.
