A native of Kronberg, Caroline Melzer studied in Mannheim with Rudolf Piernay and Ulrich Eisenlohr and in Saarbrücken with Irwin Gage. Already as a student she was undertaking operatic rôles, including Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni. Engaged by the Berlin Komische Oper in 2007 she sang the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro, Fiordiligi and Mimì, and in 2008 made her début at the Vienna Volksoper as the Merry Widow, also singing Mimì at the same house. In Lieder she has given recitals in Germany, Spain, Belgium and Switzerland with the pianist Anette Fischer-Lichdi. Her career has brought a number of festival appearances in Germany, The Netherlands and Austria. She holds awards from the Karlsruhe Handel Academy, the Richard Wagner Association and the Steans Institute for Young Artists, Ravinia Festival, Chicago, USA. She has participated in a number of broadcasts and recordings.
