GIOVANNI BATTISTA RIGON

Giovanni Battista Rigon has won a reputation as an important Rossini conductor. He has worked at major Italian theatres, including La Fenice, Venice, the Teatro Filarmonico, Verona and the San Carlo, Naples. In 2006 and 2008 he inaugurated the Martina Franca Festival with the first modern performance of I giuochi d’Agrigento by Paisiello and Il re pastore by Piccinni. He is the artistic director of the Settimane Musicali festival held at the Teatro Olimpico, Vicenza. He has also conducted orchestral programmes with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Teatro Regio, Turin, the Orchestra of the Teatro Lirico, Cagliari, the Orchestra of Padua and Veneto (OPV), the Orchestra Internazionale d’Italia, the Filarmonia Veneta G.F. Malipiero and the Lebanese National Orchestra. His recordings include DVDs of Il Turco in Italia (Italian Critics Award in 2010) and Don Pasquale, and on CD Il flauto magico (Nuova Era) and I giuochi d’Agrigento (Dynamic).
