The Armenian soprano Hrachuhí Bassénz first studied the violin in Yerevan and then singing with Gayane Geghamyan at the Yerevan Music School. In 1996 she won first prize at the Fifth Voice Competition of the Republic of Armenia. Subsequent awards include the Hildegard Pabelick-Jentsch Preis for Armenian church music (2000), the Belvedere Singing Competition, Vienna (2005) and the Gelsenkirchener Theaterpreis (2006). In 2001 she participated in the Pyongyang, North Korea, April Spring Competition, followed by guest performances in Frankfurt, Giessen and Solms-Laubach. In 2006 she sang Leonora in Verdi’s Il trovatore at Gelsenkirchen. Concert tours have taken her to Germany, North Korea, Moscow, Cyprus, Austria, Turkey and the United States. Since 2008 she has been a member of the Nuremberg State Opera.
